Caregivers Can Help Prevent SIDS |

Studies have shown that approximately 1 in 5 sudden infant deaths occurr while the infant is in the care of a non-parental caregiver. Many of these deaths occur in babies who routinely sleep on their backs at home but are placed on their stomachs by a non-parent caregiver. Infants who regularly sleep on their backs are unaccustomed to tummy sleep. These ‘unaccustomed tummy sleepers’ are at 6-9 times greater risk of dying from SIDS when put on their stomachs to sleep.
